How can I change Firefox's default resolution without changing my desktops?

I just installed Windows 7 and, of course, Firefox. I decided to use a higher resolution, but this is kind of a pain in Firefox - just about every web page has blank bars on the side and the text is fairly small. I know I can change font size, but is there any way I can stop Firefox from using my resolution? How can I change Firefox's default resolution without changing my desktops?
